Why Jesus Speaks In Parables

And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it.  But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples. Mark 4:33-35

All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

"I will open My mouth in parables;

I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world."

Matthew 13:34-35

Why Parable Is Necessary

And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"

He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.  For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.  Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.  And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

'Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,

And seeing you will see and not perceive;

For the hearts of this people have grown dull.

Their ears are hard of hearing,

And their eyes they have closed,

Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,

Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,

So that I should heal them.'

But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;  17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.  Matthew 13:10-17

Explanations:

1.     Jesus spoke to them in parables because they were not ready and willing to know the Truth about God and life.

2.     According to the above prophecy, speaking in parables was one of the signs by which the Messiah was to be known.

3.     By speaking in parables, Jesus proved beyond every reasonable doubt that He is indeed the Messiah.

4.     In addition, Jesus spoke in parables in the public and before the multitudes because He knew that there were spies, saboteurs among the multitudes, as well as the troublesome Pharisees, Sadducees and scribes.

5.     Parables show hidden meanings, help people to know the things of the spirit and to understand the realities in spirit.

6.     Parable is meant to reveal and conceal the facts, both at the same time. It reveals the facts to those who are worthy to have the knowledge. It hides the facts from those who are enemies of truth.

7.     Parable is an expression of wisdom, and it is good for delivering messages in coded form, to confuse and by pass those who are not worthy to have the knowledge.

8.     Whoever wants to be able to understand parables and proverbs should pray to God for knowledge and wisdom.

9.     Where necessary, a wise man should speak in parable, so that only those who should know shall understand what he is saying.

Why God Speaks In Parables

God speaks in parables and proverbs, because:

1.     The children of God are in the midst of the fallen angels. In this world, the fallen angels are also in human forms, and they are more numerous than the children of God.

2.     By speaking in parables, God made it very easy for the false prophets, fake pastors and deceptive ministers to expose and disgrace themselves even so without knowing it. And these hypocrites are quite numerous indeed.

3.     Speaking in parables makes the spirit of knowledge and wisdom in the people of God to grow from one spiritual level to another. Thereby, the children of God learn many things, become more knowledgeable and wiser.

4.     To reveal and to conceal at the same time, revealing the hidden truth to the children of God, and while at the same time concealing the truth from all the people who should not know it.

The Use Of Parables

Apostle Matthew:  Another thing that I want you congregation to know was that Jesus was speaking in parables.

The Head:  And what He says depends on the spiritual levels of the people He is speaking to. In some places that I enter, I tell them that myself is a pastor, because they do not know and if you explain to them, they will not understand. In other places, I tell them that myself is the FirstSon of God, Jesus Christ. And in some other places, I say, tell the family members that Jesus said so so things. It is still the same person, myself, speaking. I say the same thing in different ways, according to the understanding of the people and according to their spiritual levels.

What the Israelites know was that God sends His prophets and ministers to the world. When Jesus said, “… him who sent me…,” the Israelites were seeing Him as a messenger from God, a prophet. But, actually, what Jesus was telling them was that “I am God Almighty who has come in the midst of humanity as the Jesus Christ you are seeing. I have sent myself to you.” Jesus had to say so because that was the much the people know and the much they could understand. They did not know, could not understand and would not believe it, that God Himself was in their midst in the form of a human being. They did not know that God can come down in the form of a human being and stay in the midst of humanity. For God to appear in the form of a man should not be a puzzle, because man was created in the image and likeness, in the nature and form, of God Almighty. God appearing in the world as Jesus Christ was simply God appearing in His own nature and shape. The Israelites did not know that such a thing is possible and real. They thought that God was a very Mighty Being that stays faraway and does not come into the midst of humanity. They thought that God only appears on the mountains, always thundering to people from afar.

Everybody has his own lower self and his higher self. The lower self is what you see every day as ordinary human beings. But, when transfiguration takes place, the lower self becomes transformed into the higher self, just as electrical energy is stepped down from a high voltage to a low voltage or stepped up from low voltage to high voltage. Whether electric current is low or high, it is still the same current moving, either in a small measure or in a big measure. Just as an electric bulb can be its ordinary self, a bulb, or become radiant fire, full of brightness, when the switched is turned on. It was God Almighty that came as Jesus Christ in the midst of humanity. And He confirmed this when transfiguration took place on the mountain.

Apostle Matthew: Is there anything that you understand?

Chukwudi: I understand it.

Apostle Matthew: Is there anything that you understand?

Chukwudi: Yes, my Lord – I understood the explanations above.

Many Reasons Why Jesus Speaks In Parables

Apostle Matthew: Son of man, why do Jesus often speak in parables?

The Head: Many people who supposed to understand what Jesus was teaching were battling against the truth. That was why Jesus did often spoke in parables, sometimes. But if the people had come with purity of heart and in peace, with the fact that they were prepared to know the truth, and wanted to be taught, Jesus would afford time to explain to them in clear terms, in such a way that they would understand. But they came in trickery, in contentions against the word of God …

Apostle Matthew: Son of man, … all these people, myself told you that it was  not what Jesus taught the disciples that He taught the multitudes, because people’s understanding are at different levels, in various perspectives. Spiritual talents are of various types.

Jesus do check the spiritual level of the people, what they can bear, what they can understand, and teach the people according to their levels and understandings. It was not the way He taught us, The Twelve Apostles, that He taught the gatherings.

Apostle Matthew: Son of man, the power of the Holy Spirit are of various types… If the Holy Spirit were to come into the people, the way the Holy Spirit wants, people shall not be able to bear, withstand, the power of the Holy Spirit…

The Head: The power of the Holy Spirit may pull down people, they start suffering sickness. Or, it may harm them, because they cannot bear the power of the Holy Spirit.

Apostle Matthew: Son of man, that is why Jesus speaks to them in parables. As ourselves, Jesus spoke in parable and also explained to us. But there are things Jesus said which He did not explain. Sometimes, it was when we asked Him about what He said that He did explained to us.

The Head: At that time, it showed that you apostles were ready to know the truth, and Jesus would explain. But the Pharisees and Sadducees, even if Jesus explained to them, they would not understand. Even if themselves did understood, they would say, “No.” Themselves refuse to know and accept.

Apostle Matthew:  Is this a charm?

Caused by a charm?

Was it a manipulations by some evil spirits or powers?

The Head:  It is because themselves were contending for power, to be at the head, to be the people dictating what others do. They did not want to be among the people who are being told what to do and they obey by doing what is said. And Jesus often spoke in parables because many among the multitudes following Him were hypocrites, the Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes or their agents, who were looking for ways to implicate, condemn or arrest Him.
